Is Giving Entrance Exams A Good Choice?

Many students have a concern about this. Almost every stream, whether it's science, commerce, or arts have their own entrance exams to get into top colleges. If you aren’t 100% sure of in which college you want to take admission then you should surely give entrance exam. This will not only brush up your basic concepts which will be helpful in graduation but will also help you to get into top colleges. Most of the colleges in India screen and shortlist the students based on this exam.
Some colleges even conduct their own entrance exams for admission. It is good to prepare and give the entrance exam. There are some popular entrance exams listed below for different stream.
1. NDA
- There is one common entrance exam for all stream. If you are passionate about the army then you sure definitely prepare for NDA. Many students apply for this.
- One thing to keep in mind is to join armed force make sure to keep yourself healthy and fit.
- Once you clear the NDA exam you will also have to pass the physical test. If you fail in physical test your hard work will go waste.
- Keep checking the official notification for NDA from time to time.
2. For Engineering
- To get admission in a reputed engineering college, JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) is the exam. Most of the colleges select students by their performance in this exam.
- There are two exams in this, JEE Mains and JEE Advance. Top 2.25 lakh students giving JEE Mains exam become eligible to give JEE Advance. Students who clear JEE Advance with good rank gets admission in top IITs and other reputed colleges.
- Now even if you didn’t score well in JEE Advance you can still get into good colleges.
- Many colleges in India give admission to students based on their JEE Mains rank. So make sure to prepare well in JEE Mains, the majority of engineering colleges give admission based on your rank.
- Some other reputed colleges conduct their own exam to give admission. BITS Pilani conducts BITSAT, VIT University conducts VITEEE, SRM college conducts SRMJEEE, Indraprastha University conducts IPU CET.
- If you are interested in pursuing B.tech then make sure to check these entrance exams along with JEE.
3. Exams for Commerce Students
- People mostly know about JEE and NEET, but there are exams for commerce students too! There is an entry-level exam CPT for those who want to choose the Chartered Accountancy Course.
- ICAI, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India conduct the Common Proficiency Exam.
- Other Competitive exams for commerce students are SET exam conducted by Symbiosis University. They give admission to various undergraduate courses using this entrance exam.
- Uttar Pradesh Technical University conducts their own exam UPSEE. CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is a national level law exam for those who are interested in doing a law course.
- IPU CET is conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University to give admission in the undergraduate course.
- Although clearing this exam is difficult but if you prepare well, nothing is impossible. Some top colleges like AIIMS conduct their own exams as well.
- Except for NEET, there are some other exams which a medical student should appear in.
- Armed Forces Medical College conduct their own exam AFMC, AIIMS MBBS is conducted to get admission in MBBS in by All India Institute of Medical Sciences Institute, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research conduct JIPMER entrance exam.
- If you are choosing the medical field as your career then to land in a good position then try to get into good colleges.
4. For Medical Students
- For those who are sure that they want to do MBBS should go for NEET. NEET, National Eligibility cum Entrance exam is one of the biggest exams in the medical field conducted by CBSE.
- NEET-UG is a common exam through which top medical colleges give admission to students.
5. Exams for Humanities
- There is a vast career scope for art students. Depending upon what course you want to do, you can choose the entrance exam.
- Many colleges conduct their own exams to shortlist Arts students.

Deciding the right graduation course seems to be hard, there are so many courses to choose from. But before going for any course make sure you have asked yourself the following three things!
a) Do I Really Want This?
This is the first thing you should consider while choosing any career path. Having clarity of what you want will help you to do good in the future. Go for the field you are interested in. For example, support you have an interest in mathematics, then going for graduation in statistics will be a good idea.
It is proven that you do good in things which excites you. Now if you don’t like studying maths and you have to study it on a daily basis, then it will eventually make up stressed.
b) Understand What You Are Choosing:
Before choosing any graduation course it is important to gather complete detail about that course. You should know about all the subjects you will have to earn, how much time it will take, what jobs you will be offered after completing that course.
The best way to know about a particular course is to ask your seniors who are doing it. They know everything in detail and will give you an honest review about it. Alternately, you can search for it and collect relevant information from the internet.
Till now, you must be clear of what you want to do. But still, if you are having doubts then the best way to decide is to ask your seniors and parents. They have gone through the same stage, they know you better and will be able to tell you what is right for you.
If this doesn’t work then taking help of a career counselor is the best choice. They are professionals and help students who are confused about their future. Some counselors might take your small aptitude test to see your strong and weak topics.
Don’t worry, take time to decide. If you aren’t ready then take a week break and then decide which calm mind. This decision is very important for you, don’t do anything under pressure. Know what you want, decide whether it is right or not and then go for it.
